Nokia’s Expandable Media Adapters

Nokia’s Expandable Media Adapters (XMAs) offer versatile and cost-effective solutions for the 7950 XRS family. They support various interface options, such as 10GE, 40GE, 100GE, and 400GE. They cater to IP routing, MPLS, internet peering, and IP/optical integration.

Powered by Nokia’s advanced 3 Tb/s FP4 network processor, the latest XMAs provide ultra-high density with flexible port configurations. They support pay-as-you-grow licensing for easy capacity expansion and functionality upgrades without hardware replacements.

XMAs fit seamlessly into any 7950 XRS platform, offering customizable configurations for core routing tasks. They help operators consolidate routing systems, protect hardware investments, and enable quick adaptation to evolving needs. Each XMA includes forwarding complexes for packet handling and interface ports. They’re housed in XRS Control Modules (XCMs) with dedicated CPUs and memory and connect to the system switching fabric modules (SFMs).

The XMA-XCM concept allows mixing different XMA generations in a single chassis, facilitating upgrades without replacing existing hardware. This modular approach improves scalability and upgrades performance while optimizing costs.
