E-Band Portfolio

What Is E-Band?

The E Band is a high-density, short wavelength frequency range from 60GHz to 90 GHz that, due to the directional properties afforded by the short wavelengths, is frequently used for RF/Microwave backhaul links. The typical range of E-Band backhaul applications is about 3km. The E-Band cannot be used for long-range signal transmission without very high-power systems due to significant attenuation caused by atmospheric gasses absorbing the signals.

Long Distance, High Capacity Transceivers

The UBT-m family includes compact radio units for the E-Band. It includes standard power UBT-m, extended power UBT-mX, and urban variant UBT-mU, which meet all operator needs and provide multi-gigabit, low latency microwave transport in full-outdoor and split-mount configurations. Wavence’s UBT-mX offers the highest transmit power and smallest size in the market, while the UBT-mU is the most compact in its family and has a flat antenna of 38dBi gain.

Combining two UBT-m units with XPIC allows operators to reduce spectrum fees and increase capacity up to 20 Gbps with a 2000 MHz channel spectrum. Additionally, the XPIC 2+0 solution can extend the link hop compared to a 1+0 solution. When paired with Nokia’s UBT-S and UBT-T radios and a multiband antenna, UBT-m or UBT-mX can combine E-Band carrier with any additional microwave, resulting in a compact, 3-carrier solution in either split-mount or all-outdoor configurations.

The Nokia Wavence E-Band Transceivers

The Nokia Wavence Ultra-Broadband Transceivers (UBT) offer a solution for high-capacity, low-latency microwave transport for short-haul and small-cell backhaul.

The UBT-m 80, an E-Band compact radio unit, uses advanced radio technologies and multi-frequency carrier aggregation to support multi-gigabit capacity and low latency transport with best-in-class system gain for backhaul and Ethernet fronthaul evolutions. The UBT-m 80 is fully integrated with the Nokia Network Services Platform for easy management and is compatible with the Nokia Microwave Service Switches (MSS) and other Nokia microwave products.

There are multiple options available for customers:

  • UBT-m with Standard Power
  • UBT-mX with eXtended power for longer links
  • UBT-m Urban features a flat antenna with 38dBi gain. Its design allows for direct attachment to a pole or wall, making it almost invisible.
