Nokia Deploys IP-MPLS and Optical Solutions to Power Connectivity Within Data Centers
Improving Global Connectivity with Nokia IP-MPLS
In late 2020, a global colocation powerhouse with hundreds of data centers across dozens of countries announced plans to deploy a Nokia IP/MPLS network infrastructure to support its global services.
Before the upgrade, the company was running services on multiple networks from multiple vendors. With their improved network, they’ll be able to consolidate their entire operation into one efficient webscale infrastructure to provide FP4-powered connectivity to all data centers – laying the groundwork for customers to deploy 5G networks and services.
As 5G rollouts continue, the organization is looking ahead to a fundamental shift in network design. In order to support 5G service capabilities such as ultra-low latency, high capacity, and the power to connect multiple devices and systems into one seamless and automated whole, they recognize that their existing multi-vendor network is no longer efficient or effective.
The new solution, powered by Nokia’s innovative FP4 routing silicon and Network Services Platform (NSP), will streamline operations, save customers money, and ease their 5G transformations.
Regarding the monumental upgrade, Sri Reddy, Co-President of IP/Optical Networks at Nokia, said: “We are working closely with [the company] to help advance its network and facilitate the transformation and delivery of 5G services. Our end-to-end portfolio was designed precisely to support this industrial transformation with a highly flexible, scalable, and programmable network fabric that will be the ideal platform for 5G. It is exciting to work with [the company] to help deliver this to its customers around the world.”
Creating Virtual Data Centers with IP-MPLS
A year later, in late 2021, Nokia announced a new, large-scale integrated IP/optical data center interconnect solution for one of the largest regional data center providers in northern Europe. The solution will create a single virtual data center connecting nearly a dozen physical locations. The high-speed virtual single location enables the data center to provide its customers with reliable, scalable, and fast data center interconnection and cloud connectivity.
Nokia’s IP/optical solution combines high-performance 7750 Service Routers with high-capacity 1830 Photonic Service Switches and network automation. The solution, which offers Layer 2 IP/MPLS, improves connectivity, speed, and reliability between data centers to meet various performance needs, including bandwidth and latency.
The Nokia Network Services Platform (NSP) is already deployed within the data center infrastructure. This automation solution fully manages the organization’s customer connections and data center interconnection. As a result, the operator can expect to exponentially reduce response and delivery times. Meanwhile, customers will come to enjoy operating at full speed while growing and scaling connectivity as needed.
Mark Vanderhaegen, Director of Webscale Accounts at Nokia, said: “Data center providers increasingly need the highest capacity and reliability combined with the lowest latency for their interconnect networks to provide the most responsive cloud services for their customers. Nokia’s IP/optical data center interconnection and automation capabilities, together with Infradata’s support services, will enable NorthC to quickly deliver the cloud connectivity its customers need to enable the digital transformation of their businesses.”
