Nokia DAC Transforms Chemical Manufacturing

Nokia DAC Transforms Chemical Manufacturing

Transforming Chemical Manufacturing Operations with Nokia’s Private Wireless Solutions

In the dynamic landscape of chemical manufacturing, connectivity and efficiency play pivotal roles in driving operational excellence. Chevron Phillips Chemical, a leading producer of chemicals and polymers, embarked on a transformative journey to enhance connectivity for workers and optimize the monitoring and management of its machines across multiple facilities in the United States.

Use Case Overview

Chevron Phillips Chemical recognized the importance of seamless connectivity and efficient machine management to streamline operations and ensure worker safety. Their initiative aimed to modernize their infrastructure, transitioning from traditional wired Ethernet and Wi-Fi setups to a more mobile-centric approach.

Technologies + Solutions Deployed

Nokia Digital Automation Cloud (DAC):

Nokia’s industrial-grade LTE private wireless networks were deployed across eight of CPChem’s U.S. facilities, including its Woodlands, Texas HQ, to replace outdated Wi-Fi infrastructure, providing robust and reliable connectivity to workers and machines.

Multi-Layered Network Security

To safeguard its digital infrastructure against cyber threats, Chevron Phillips Chemical implemented multi-layered network security measures, ensuring the integrity and confidentiality of its data.

Project Scope

Infrastructure Transition

Over the next five years, Chevron Phillips Chemical aims to shift from a traditional split of 70% wired Ethernet and 30% Wi-Fi to a more mobile-oriented infrastructure. This transition will see 80% mobile connectivity, complemented by 10% Wi-Fi and 10% Ethernet.

Spectrum Utilization

The project leveraged the 3.5 GHz spectrum to facilitate efficient wireless communication, enabling seamless connectivity and data transmission across its facilities.

The project was successfully executed by Nokia Channel Partner Kyndryl, with additional support from Capgemini, underscoring the expertise and capabilities of Nokia’s extensive network of partners in delivering tailored solutions to meet client needs.
