The Nokia 1830 PSS-x platforms feature the latest generation of Nokia Photonic Service Engine (PSE) coherent digital signal processing (DSP) and optics, ensuring top-tier performance. These platforms incorporate integrated dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) coherent line interfaces, enabling direct connections to WDM line systems. The platforms offer versatile connectivity options with flexible, rate-adaptive 100G to 500G coherent DWDM line interfaces and support for client services ranging from sub-10G to 400G. They also support single or multi-carrier operation, and the integrated Probabilistic Constellation Shaping (PCS) optimizes capacity and reach for any optical path. The next-generation soft decision forward error correction (SD-FEC) and pay-as-you-grow DWDM pluggable line options enhance efficiency and scalability.

For OTN switching and scalability, the 1830 PSS-x platforms provide efficient, reliable, high-density OTN switching and transport applications, with a scalable centralized OTN fabric ranging from 1.6 Tb to 48 Tb switching capacity. They support ODUk switching and protection from ODU0 to ODU4, including ODUflex, and can scale up to 4 Tb per shelf and 16 Tb per rack for the 1830 PSS-8x, up to 12 Tb per shelf and 24 Tb per rack for the 1830 PSS-12x, and up to 24 Tb per single shelf, 48 Tb per dual-shelf, and 48 Tb per rack for the 1830 PSS-24x.
The next-generation OTN capabilities support beyond 100G (B100G) applications with N x OTU4 and OTUCn line structures, high-speed, programmable cards for high-capacity applications, and WDM uplinks based on Nokia’s fifth-generation Photonic Service Engines (PSE-V), including 90Gbaud super coherent optics (PSE-Vs) and 400G pluggable digital coherent optics (PSE-Vc). Client interfaces support 400GE services, with 1 Tb/s transmission capacity per slot for uplink and client cards in the 1830 PSS-24x, and 500 Gb/s transmission capacity per slot for the 1830 PSS-8x/12x.

The platforms offer efficient 2+1 electrical fabric protection, ultra-fast wavelength multi-layer protection and restoration, and power consumption of less than 0.4 W/Gb (including optics). The 1830 PSS-8x provides 4.0 Tb/s of non-blocking switching capacity in a single 10RU shelf, scaling to 16 Tb/s per 300 mm rack, making it a high-capacity metro aggregation point in a small form factor. The 1830 PSS-12x offers 12 Tb/s of non-blocking switching capacity in a 21RU shelf, scaling to 24 Tb/s per 300 mm rack, providing efficient, high-capacity, any-rate switching in the metro core while using less power per bit. Both platforms share common cards and support a wide range of client interface types from 100 Mb/s to 400GE, coherent programmable uplinks, and 500G-capable card slots.
